During my first ride from the airport in Varadero to Havana I told the taxi driver that I have never seen so many cars from the 50s. and that in Germany a car is already considered to be old after 10 years and around 150 km. He smiled and replied :“that is a baby to us. The car we are riding with right now hit the 1 million kilometer mark a while ago.“
Beyond the cars Cuba seems to live in a totally different time period . One of the most beautiful and fascinating destinations I have ever been to.
The lake Schrecksee is located on top of a mountain around 1800 meters above see level. A friend and I hiked up at sunset and slept in sleeping bags under the night sky. Since there are no city lights around the sky is so clear that you are able to see the Milky Way if there are no clouds.
It was really calm and peaceful until a curious fox sneaked up on us. He visited us several times that night and stood right in front of us.
